Grateful Friends Youth Division

The Grateful Friends Youth Division gives high school students throughout Essex and Middlesex Counties a chance to lead, bring their peers together, and make a difference for local adults with cancer.

The Grateful Friends Youth Division gives high school students throughout Essex and Middlesex Counties a meaningful way to lead, serve, and make a difference for local adults with cancer. Student-led chapters represent Grateful Friends within their schools, building awareness of our mission while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership and community service.

Each chapter leads Grateful Friends Go Pink! every October as its primary annual commitment, rallying students around our largest awareness campaign. From there, chapters can make the experience their own. Students can organize Comfort Basket™ supply drives and Build-a-Basket events, volunteer with Grateful Friends, develop new ideas to increase awareness and impact, and even have opportunities to bring those ideas directly to our Board of Directors.

 

Most importantly, each chapter is built to last. Student leaders bring others in, share responsibility, and help prepare the next generation of students to continue the work after they graduate.

Start a Chapter at Your High School

  1. Reach Out & Tell Us Why You Want to Lead
    Submit a brief Letter of Interest to info@gratefulfriends.org introducing yourself, your high school, and why you’d like to start a Youth Division chapter. We’ll connect with you, answer your questions, and help you understand what comes next.
     

  2. Get Your School On Board
    Talk with your school administration and identify an appropriate teacher, faculty member, or staff advisor. Your school must approve the chapter and your participation before activities begin, and your chapter will follow your school’s requirements for student clubs and organizations.
     

  3. Build Your Team
    Invite other students to get involved and create a group built around caring, leadership, service, and respect. Bring in younger students, too, so future leaders are ready to carry the chapter forward after you graduate.
     

  4. Lead Go Pink!
    This is your chapter’s primary annual commitment! Each Youth Division chapter leads Grateful Friends Go Pink! at its school every October. Rally your classmates, promote the campaign, distribute Go Pink! gear, and get your school excited about spreading the word.
     

  5. Keep It Going
    Go Pink! is just the beginning. Chapters can host Comfort Basket™ supply drives or Build-a-Basket events, volunteer at Grateful Friends events, and bring us new ideas for increasing awareness and impact throughout the year.
